Kapolrestabes Medan, Kombes Pol Dr. Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak, mengklaim angka kejahatan jalanan, khususnya pencurian dengan kekerasan (curas) atau begal, mengalami penurunan signifikan selama bulan Ramadan.
Ia menyebut, dalam periode 100 hari terakhir hingga pelaksanaan Operasi Ketupat, tren kejahatan menunjukkan perbaikan, dengan penurunan kasus begal mencapai 14 persen.
“Walaupun 14 persen, saya mengatakan ini signifikan. Karena curas atau bahasa pasarnya begal, itu turun 14 persen,” ucapnya, Rabu (18/3/2026).

Menurutnya, perbandingan terlihat dari kondisi sebelumnya, di mana dalam sehari laporan kasus bisa mencapai tiga kejadian, bahkan di tingkat polsek bisa mencapai lima hingga delapan kasus.
“Selama dua bulan ini kita bisa menekan. Dalam sebulan terakhir juga terjadi penurunan,” tuturnya.
Calvijn menjelaskan, capaian tersebut tidak terlepas dari kerja sama berbagai pihak, termasuk masyarakat, media, serta para pemangku kepentingan lainnya.
