Sebuah kejadian langka menimpa seorang pria berusia 24 tahun di Vietnam, yang mendapati sumpit kayu tersangkut di rongga matanya selama tiga minggu tanpa menyadarinya.

Keberadaan sumpit tersebut baru diketahui setelah pria tersebut merasa nyeri dan mengalami pembengkakan pada matanya.

Pasien yang tidak disebutkan namanya ini dirawat di Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Vietnam.

Saat pertama kali datang, pria tersebut mengeluhkan rasa sakit dan pembengkakan di mata kiri, yang sudah berlangsung selama tiga minggu. Namun, dalam beberapa hari terakhir, kondisinya semakin parah dengan adanya nanah di sudut mata kirinya.

Dikutip dari Oddity Central, pasien mengungkapkan bahwa ia sempat mencari pertolongan medis di fasilitas kesehatan lainnya di kota tempat tinggalnya.

Namun, setelah pemeriksaan, ia hanya diberi obat yang ternyata tidak memberikan efek signifikan pada kondisinya.

Hasilnya mengejutkan; ditemukan benda asing sepanjang 9 cm yang tersangkut di rongga mata kiri pasien. Benda itu ternyata adalah sumpit kayu yang telah menembus jaringan lunak luar rongga mata.

Sumpit tersebut bahkan menembus dinding atas sinus maksilaris dan merusak dinding hidung lateral pasien.

Mendengar temuan ini, pasien mengaku terkejut dan hanya bisa mengingat kejadian tabrakan dengan temannya saat berada di sebuah pesta malam hari dalam keadaan mabuk.

Ia tidak ingat dengan jelas bagaimana sumpit kayu tersebut bisa menusuk rongga matanya atau merasakan rasa sakit yang ditimbulkannya.

Setelah melakukan serangkaian prosedur operasi, tim medis berhasil mengangkat sumpit kayu tersebut dengan aman.

Dokter kemudian melakukan pemeriksaan lanjutan untuk memastikan tidak ada benda asing lain yang tertinggal di tubuh pasien.

Pasien tersebut sangat beruntung karena sumpit kayu itu tidak mengenai matanya. Namun, para dokter memperingatkan bahwa cedera seperti ini sangat berbahaya dan harus segera ditangani oleh tenaga medis untuk mencegah komplikasi serius.
